The style traces back to 16th-century Holland, where Dutch potters adapted Chinese porcelain techniques onto tin glazed earthenware; cobalt blue on a white ground became the signature look, and the city of Delft gave it its name. By the 1600s, these tiles lined fireplaces and kitchens across Europe and, later, the American colonies.
This is where Delft comes alive. We compose full scenes across multiple tiles landscapes, ships, florals and painterly panels printed and kiln fired as one continuous tile mural.
We also take inspiration from period Delft scenes and paintings for murals: the look, the composition and the brushwork, scaled to your wall. We recreate the artwork as a mural rather than colour matching individual antique tiles it’s the scene that carries the room. Every mural is numbered for a precise install.
The classic is cobalt blue on white. We also produce green Delft, manganese tones and other palettes to suit your scheme.
Because we design and fire each run to order, colour is a starting point, not a fixed catalogue. Fired ceramic colour is never an exact match to a paint, RAL or Pantone reference, so we proof the design on a fired tile before production and you approve how it looks on the wall.

Prices start from £352.50 per square metre plus VAT, and a typical kitchen splashback of about one square metre in 15x15cm tiles uses roughly 44 tiles. Bathroom panels and feature walls are quoted the same way, so the price follows the size of the wall rather than the complexity of the design. Samples are £10, refunded against your order.
For comparison, hand painted Delft tiles from UK studios are priced per decorated tile, typically around £17 to £35 each (prices checked September 2026). Across a square metre of 15x15cm tiles that is roughly £750 to £1,500, and more at the smaller 13x13cm size many studios use. A printed, kiln fired Delft splashback from £352.50 per square metre gives you the same blue and white scheme for less than half the cost, with a consistent finish across the whole wall and a 50 year guarantee.

People often ask whether we copy antique Delft tiles exactly. Here’s the straight answer.
Genuine antique Delft has irregular glazes, hand painted variation, and aged colour that can’t be matched tile for tile in a modern kiln, and an exact single tile match rarely justifies the cost. What we do brilliantly is capture the style and the scene: new designs in the Delft tradition, and full tile murals that reproduce the look of period work at the scale of a wall.
Traditional Delft tiles were hand painted in cobalt onto a tin glaze, which is why no two antique tiles are alike. Ours are made differently. Each design is prepared as a ceramic decal, applied to the tile by hand and kiln fired at 900°C, so the blue fuses into the glaze rather than sitting on top of it.
The result keeps the character of Delft, the motifs, the borders and the blue and white palette, with a finish that is consistent across a whole splashback or panel, fade proof for 50 years and easy to clean. If you want the irregularity of a genuinely hand painted tile, a specialist decorator is the right route. If you want a Delft scheme that reads as one piece across a wall, printed and kiln fired is the better way to build it.
